Next to our kitchen shines a word. There's nothing more you need to do this evening.
You walk through the Rheinauhafen, past the Kranhäuser, with the water to your left. Then an old warehouse, and behind it glass.
You step through the glass door. No reception desk, no list, no scrutinising glance, just a long, beautiful bar and the question of whether you would like something already. You are not seated here, you are looked after. Then you raise your head: above you, the funnels through which grain once flowed. No one has torn them down. Next to the kitchen, a single word: ENJOY.
This is the moment JOSEPH’S is made for. Not the photo, not the menu. That one moment when you realise the evening is going to be a good one.
A house through which grain once flowed still passes something on today. Only now it is eaten.
Cologne's best Wiener Schnitzel. That's a bold claim, and we put it to the test every evening. Made from veal loin, pounded, breaded, fried in clarified butter.
Around this schnitzel has grown a cuisine that can do more than just the tried and tested. Fried chicken from free-range fowl. Tafelspitz, slow-cooked for hours in its broth. And alongside that, a lighter touch: Hamachi with yuzu. Steak tartare from Eifel free-range beef. Fish that changes because the market changes.
Sebastian Ostlender has been running this restaurant for years. He doesn’t talk much about it. You can taste it for yourself.

Beneath the restaurant lies a cellar. Austria, Germany, Italy. Great growths, old vines, and a few bottles you won't find on every list.
Torsten Schliesing is a restaurant manager and sommelier. He won't ask you what you'd like to drink. He'll ask you what you're eating, what you like and how you want the evening to go. He'll take care of the rest.

A glass with the Rhine in front of it is better.
There are many restaurants in Cologne with a view of the Rhine. And there is one that is situated on the banks of the Rhine.
Our terrace is so close to the water that you can hear the ships. You can see the river, the harbour, the city skyline, and, if the evening is clear, the Siebengebirge mountains on the horizon. Sheltered from the weather and temperature-controlled, all year round. Even in November. Even when it's raining.
The terrace is the place where guests end up staying out late. It’s very popular. Book early.
Not every evening begins in the evening.
Monday to Friday, between twelve and three. A lunch that fits into a lunch break yet is no compromise. Fresh, locally sourced, changing. For conversations you don't want to have in the boardroom.
There is only one thing left.
